Earned Sick & Safe Leave, and Paid Family and Medical Leave for All

Every Minnesotan, whether a CEO of their own company or a restaurant server - should be free to stay home when they are sick, to care for a loved one, or to recover in the wake of a domestic assault. That’s what earned sick and safe leave is all about – ensuring working Minnesotans don’t face the difficult dilemma of choosing between getting well and getting a paycheck. Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike have come together to support this legislation that improves the physical and economic health of our communities.

This is why I’m proud to continue to co-author legislation that benefits the nearly 40% of working Minnesotans that don’t have access to these basic benefits.

  • Earned Sick and Safe Leave: Requires employees to earn, at a minimum, one hour of paid, earned sick and safe time for every 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours per year.

  • Paid Family and Medical Leave: Provides for 12 weeks of medical leave with partial wage replacement and/or 12 weeks of family leave to bond with a new baby, care for a sick loved one, through an insurance program that’s modeled on Minnesota’s unemployment insurance.
